When it comes to family holidays by the seaside, you can’t go wrong with Newquay! This town on the north coast of Cornwall has been a popular holiday destination for more than a century, and for good reason! With glorious sand beaches, beautiful leisure gardens, its very own Zoo and all the seaside quaintness you can muster – the family won’t ever want to leave!
Perched on the Atlantic cliffs of Cornwall’s north coast, Newquay is bordered by seven miles of white sand beaches and is considered to be one of the best stretches of coastline in the UK. In medieval times, this supported a large fishing industry which allowed the town to grow. This quickly caught the attention of holiday makers, and in more modern times, a whole wave of surfers!
From toes in sand, to ice cream in hand, from riding waves, to a beach-day laze – there’s something for the little ones and the big ones in Newquay! If we move away from the wonderful beaches for a moment, the town itself has plenty to offer! As well as your usual big brand shops, there are plenty of independent Cornish shops which sell all sorts of seaside trinkets! True to its seaside resort roots, the town also has a number of amusement arcades which the little ones are sure to love, so get your pennies ready for all kinds of fun games! Other nautical attractions include the Blue Reef Aquarium (to get a close look at some fantastic sea life) and the Pirate’s Quest (a performer led attraction which has all sorts of surprises if you’re little ones arr feeling brave m’hearties!)
When you’re done wandering around the town, Newquay gets even better! The beaches which border the town on either side are simply stunning! Your little ones will love building sandcastles, exploring rock pools or trying their hand at bodyboarding or surfing. Well-known as the surf capital of the UK, this town has everything you need for a wet and wild water sports holiday! You can surf and bodyboard some waves, go kayaking or simply have a relaxing swim, it’s all up to you! To experience the wild, without getting wet, Newquay Zoo is a fantastic choice for your little cubs! With lions and lemurs, monkeys and meerkats, panda and penguins plus sloths, snakes, zebra and wildebeest to see, you can’t go wrong with this Newquay attraction! Alternatively, if you’re wanting something more relaxing, there are some beautiful coastal walks across the cliffs, with spectacular spots dotted along them to watch a sunset!
When you’re done with all that, Mum, Dad and the little ones are going to need to refuel! Well, don’t worry because Newquay is a real foodie hotspot! Of course, you’ve got the classic Cornish pasty in lots of places, as well as fish and chip restaurants galore, but there’s also things for the more refined taste! There are some spectacular restaurants in the town which serve up any kind of food you imagine, with a view that you won’t believe! Or, if you’re feeling particularly lavish, the famous chef Rick Stein has a restaurant on Fistral Beach serves up some proper posh nosh made with delicious local produce!
